DIRECTORATE FOR CLIMATE ACTIVITIES, SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND PROTECTION OF AIR AND SOIL AND FROM LIGHT POLLUTION
The Directorate for climate activities, sustainable development and protection of air and soil and from light pollution carries out administrative and expert tasks related to climate change mitigation and adaptation, protection of the ozone layer, preservation of air quality, sea quality and protection of soil, and carries out other tasks related to implementation of measures with the aim of reducing and preventing environmental pollution.
The Directorate coordinates and implements sustainable development policy of the Republic of Croatia in the part related to sustainable production and consumption, eco-labels, green public procurement, utilisation of renewable energy sources, implementation of energy efficiency measures, cleaner transport and green industry. The Directorate participates in the development of draft acts and implementing regulations, programmes, plans and reports and monitors their implementation, and carries out tasks related to coordination, development and implementation of strategic documents and expert background documents for the adoption of sectoral policies and programmes in the part related to climate activities, sustainable development and protection of the ozone layer, air, soil and sea.
The Directorate issues permits for carrying out activities by which greenhouse gases are discharged, for carrying out activities of air quality monitoring, reference laboratories, pollutant emissions into the air, for carrying out activities of servicing equipment and apparatus that contain ozone depleting substances and for the collection and recovery of those substances. The Directorate carries out expert and administrative tasks related to supervision of the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service.

DIRECTORATE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT AND SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT
The Directorate for environmental impact assessment and sustainable waste management carries out administrative and expert tasks related to environmental impact assessment, strategic environmental assessment of strategies, plans and programmes, prevention of and liability for environmental damage, integrated pollution prevention, and issues the environmental permit, that is, approves operation below capacity to installations. The Directorate also issues approvals to legal and natural persons for performing professional environmental protection activities in all areas under the competence of the Ministry, organises and carries out professional examination of experts performing professional environmental protection activities at the authorised person or independently, keeps a register of authorised persons and experts; it analyses the status and proposes implementation of measures with the aim of remediating damaged parts of the environment as well as implementation of measures with the aim of meeting environmental quality standards and improving environmental status, analyses implementation of ratified treaties, acts and other regulations and proposes measures for their implementation. The Directorate also participates in the development of draft acts and implementing regulations, programmes, plans and reports and monitors their implementation.
The Directorate prepares responses to questions posed by Members of the Croatian Parliament, prepares responses related to public information, and monitors implementation and steers the development of the Environmental Information System and the Environmental Pollution Register within the framework of the Directorate. The Directorate participates in expert tasks of harmonising legislation with European Union regulations. The Directorate cooperates with central state administration bodies, state administration offices in counties, local and regional self-government units, economic actors and non-governmental organisations as well as the Croatian Agency for Environment and Nature and the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund. The Directorate carries out tasks related to coordination, development and implementation of strategic documents and expert background documents regarding environmental protection, management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste and special categories of waste. The Directorate develops expert background documents for adoption of sectoral policies and programmes in the part related to environmental protection, management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste and special categories of waste.
